NOTHINGABOUTME BLUEBELL

'BLUEBELL' is the icy, haunting and expansive lullaby from UK duo NothingAboutMe, reminiscent of Portishead with its notes of trip-hop, folk and electronica. The song itself “was written in response to difficult emotions linked to the loss of life to suicide, trauma and intermittent depression”, as the London-Cornwall band tell us, and so it’s through the symbolism of the bluebell that they look to find a resolve. The unassuming blue flower is associated with everlasting love, gratitude and humility; a vital message that breaks through the frozen, downtempo opening into the chorus which is full of human warmth. Overall, the track is brought together with Joe Dworniak’s experimental arrangements and Sarah Stanton’s strangely enchanting voice. 'NothingAboutMe' is as humble and powerful as the bluebell they portray. -Hannah Thacker
